What To Do When You Find An Injured Bird?

  1. Check to see whether the bird has been harmed rather than abandoned. Some birdwatchers have a tendency to confuse young, orphaned birds with damaged birds.
  2. Put the wild bird in a cardboard box and cover it with a lid or a cloth to keep it safe.
  3. It is important to check on the bird on a regular basis to verify that the condition is improving.

If you come across an injured bird, you should gently place it in a cardboard box, cover it with a lid or a towel, and store it in a location that is cool and secure. When damaged, birds are prone to going into shock extremely quickly, which is frequently what causes them to pass away.

What do you do if you find a dying bird?

  1. Put the bird in a small cardboard box and line it with paper towels or linen.
  2. Place the box in the refrigerator.
  3. Wrap a towel or sweater around the outside of the box.
  4. Put the box in a secluded, dark, and quiet spot.

Put a heat source either inside or under the box to speed up the process.(If the bird is experiencing hyperthermia, you should not do this.) Give the number of a wild bird center or rehabilitator a call. You might also contact the veterinarian.
